At long last work appears to have begun at 'sidings park' the mostly derelict yard adjacent to loughborugh station, mostly civils, fencing, clearing away old track etc. some of the materials went to Great Central (preserved) railway I think. But this would suggest Network Rail have now successfully sold the land for development (shops, new road and hotel I believe). The delay to the land sale was cited by NR as the cause of delay to Loughborough station redevelopment including platform extension as that was the funding stream. This might mean we might finally get platforms long enough for the 222s & HSTs at Loughborough, its certainly in the current NR 5year plan (halelujiah).

Of course the platforms at Loughborough are in fact long enough, it's just got an inconveniently placed bridge blocking off half the platform!
