Good morning /afternoon/evening All - new to this forum (please be kind!).Background - 23 years served in HM Forces (Royal Navy(RN)), left in 2021, extensive career in systems safety and engineering, as well as signalling/operations rooms at the beginning first 8 years.
Left RN in 2021 and have been working in Defence safety engineering since, but time for a change and I'd really like to be part of the GWR team.
Applied for trainee train driver in March 2025 - Passes online tests but didn't get any further (was not provided any feedback).
Applied for Admin role Aug 2025 - no online tests, no feedback.
Applied for Train dispatch Oct 2025 - Passed online tests, assessments and offered interview, interview went well but 'other candidate was offered position' and my application for this role has been put on 'hold' for 6mths if one should become available I 'may' be offered a position.
Applied Signaller with Network Rail - Passed all online waiting for assessment date. Been waiting 3 weeks.
Applied for Multi skilled operator which I believe reads as shunter role - Online assessment done on Sunday 16th Nov.
Questions:
Specifically what the role is, as the advert I'm told by fellow train drivers/train staff and friends that work in GWR that it is not as advertised.
Tips/Hints should I be successful to be invited for interview would be greatly appreciated.
What type of shift patterns are worked?
