Shrewsbury signalling problems 18-19 October 2024

Does anyone know the extent of the signalling problems near Shrewsbury that started yesterday afternoon and extended into today resulting in no trains running between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury.

Been commuting to Shrewsbury and back this week for an event. Glad not to have got caught up in the flooding on my day off on Wednesday.
Sent via Crewe last night trying to get back to Birmingham from Shrewsbury which ended up taking over 3 hours as there were also delays and cancellations through Crewe.
Nothing running today (although RTT seems to suggest a few ATW services got through) so took a decision early on to abandon the journey.

The National Rail site says the problem is around Wellington. The area is controlled from Saltley ROC. Possibly a long-term effect from Wednesday's flooding affecting local power or relay room(s)

It is quite a vast failure. There is an entire loss of signals from Abbey Foregate through to Telford.

Emergency special working was put in place and only TFW services were running to Wolverhampton and back.

As of 2pm it has been agreed to end all services so that NR can begin testing which is about 8 miles worth and could take up to 6 hours. Rectification is then expected to take at least 5 hours.
