Shrewsbury - Machynlleth

Does anybody know if 67's are banned from this section of the Cambrian line due to weight issues? I have only ever done tours and service trains on this line with 37s and 66s, and was wondering if this means the forthcoming UKR tour to Welshpool in September, given there is no ETRMS yet, will be a 66 simply by default?

67s are not route cleared as its RA7 to Welshpool and RA5 onwards from there. You'll have a 66 or maybe a 37/97 on the front.

But a higher axle loading due to the 67's Bo-Bo wheel arrangement. 37s became the default loco for restricted secondary routes in the 1980s due to their better RA than 40s, Peaks or 47s, and their better power than 25s, 26s or 27s.

67's have been up the Cambrian on a few occasions but as Planner says they need special dispensation due to being RA8, it's not the weight of the loco that governs the RA it's the axle weight a 67 is 22.5 tons per axle.

The section from Sutton Bridge Jn - Machy and Aberystwyth is fine. Its Barmouth Bridge which is restricted on the DJP.

Not according to the appendix it isnt. Very little is clear down the Cambrian.

Apart from the Royal Train mentioned above I've only seen a 67 one other time when a 37 failed in Talerddig loop on a ballast train and the 67 was sent to rescue it.

In my late fathers photo collection I have a picture of a 47 crossing a 40 at Caersws back in Aug 83 (sorry not digital yet). Both types have been Aberystwyth on railtours in recent years.
