Hi. Seems work is being carried out in the carriage sidings, does anyone know what is being done?.
A fuelling point is being installed.Hi. Seems work is being carried out in the carriage sidings, does anyone know what is being done?.
Thank you. Also i thought with the space in the sidings i thought they be extending the roads or putting in new ones to cater for the new trains TFW and WMR units.A fuelling point is being installed.
It was certainly talked about, I'm not sure if it's in the final plans or not to be fair.Thank you. Also i thought with the space in the sidings i thought they be extending the roads or putting in new ones to cater for the new trains TFW and WMR units.
Thanks again. It was certainly talked about, I'm not sure if it's in the final plans or not to be fair.
A Shrewsbury drivers just told me one’s going in but it’s only an emergency fuelling pointNo fuelling point, just additional roads and extending some of the current ones, moving the shunter's accommodation and toilet block.
I'm one of these drivers lol so can confirm.A Shrewsbury drivers just told me one’s going in but it’s only an emergency fuelling point
Edit to add a 2nd Shrewsbury driver tells me that they spoke to one of the WMT guys on the project down at the yard the other day and one is going in and it’s meant to be an emergency one so not for every day use is what he was told by them.
I'm based at Shrewsbury and have been involved with the project from the start. There's certainly not a proper fuelling point going in, not really sure how an emergency one works tbh and there wasn't one shown on the plans I last saw but things do change on the railway at the drop of a hat! It's basically additional roads for TFW who are funding the whole thing as well as updated lighting and extensions to the current roads 1-3.A Shrewsbury drivers just told me one’s going in but it’s only an emergency fuelling point

To be fair I'm not sure who the guy I spoke to was other than him being some sort of project manager at WMT, so my info could be entirely wrong.I'm based at Shrewsbury and have been involved with the project from the start. Oh that’s interesting, what’s the plan with having them at Crewe overnight ? Will Crewe drivers keep their competency ?Certainly the belief amongst Shrewsbury drivers was that a fuel point was going in, that's where I heard it from as well.
That said, there's been a change of plans with the 153s that means they'll still be able to be maintained and fueled overnight at Crewe so there's slightly less need for a fueling point at Shrewsbury than may have otherwise been the case
Indeed. Keeping them on Crewe - Shrewsbury locals, which between that and shed moves should be enough to keep the Crewe drivers competent!Oh that’s interesting, what’s the plan with having them at Crewe overnight ? Will Crewe drivers keep their competency ?
Especially in a week like this where it's rather difficult to get the units to Tysley!Have to say that a fuelling point at Shrewsbury would have been very useful in my days doing unit diagramming at Central Trains!

So will none be 197’s then ?Indeed. Keeping them on Crewe - Shrewsbury locals, which between that and shed moves should be enough to keep the Crewe drivers competent!
I've not seen the exact diagrams so I don't know how exactly it'll work yet.So will none be 197’s then ?
Ah righto! Will be interesting, might free up a 197 or two for other things.I've not seen the exact diagrams so I don't know how exactly it'll work yet.
Assuming it does happen (plans to have a habit of changing!) it would likely free up a double 197. Most of the day the local is a single unit shuttling back and forth.Ah righto! Will be interesting, might free up a 197 or two for other things.
I doubt. I think it's more that it's a much logistically simpler option.Would the change at Crewe be because the remodelling for HS2 is now in the bin, so no need to relocate facilities to Salop?

I bet the environmental regulations were a pain though?Emergency fuelling took place in Ipswich platform 1 & beside platform 6 at Colchester until the old shed was completely upgraded for fuel/sand & light maintenance at Colchester. The 755s had the emergency fuelling via tank/lorry for around 3 years.

Are they putting in an oil storage tank?Years ago it was suggested a fuel depot at Coton hill just like alot of infrastructure change going to happen, but then cancelled. I am a little surprised at a fuel tank being put in Abbey Foregate sidings so close to the river.
Exactly how one is built Concrete handstand with contained drainage in the cesses and 4 foot to an interceptor and collection sumpMy impression from comments earlier this will be an emergency fueling point, so most likely to be just a hard standing for a road tanker with a closed circuit drainage system into a fuel seperator sump. That is very common at fueling points near watercourses.
Due to working closely with the contractor appointed to deliver the sidings upgrades, I can confirm the following is currently planned to take place on Shrewsbury Sidings, some of which is still subject to the final design acceptance which I hope we will get very soon.Hi. Seems work is being carried out in the carriage sidings, does anyone know what is being done?.
I will try to put some other updates on as they happen, one of the aspects I'll be helping with is the updating of the Sectional Appendix with the resurrected roads and their future intended use. Interesting to hear the Old Wash Road was called the Ballast, I presume that was a locally adopted name as The SA states it was a wash road. Thanks for your update. May i just say about the sidings, there is only three roads in the Shropshire sidings 1/2 and 3 . And used to be 5 roads called the GOODS. and what you call the wash road was called the Ballast.
