To help keep the main thread for talking about the scheme and why it requires minor changes or issues that are being highlighted by people:

This thread is to found out where people actually stand, with the scheme. Do you believe in the scheme? Do you believe it's a waste of money? Do you believe it's not worthwhile?

It would be interesting to see what the majority of people on this forum thinks, IE back or scrap.

I think it would be better to subside a standard half fare for u19s and third off for 19-24 year olds

I think give that age group free bus/train tickets, but only if they are students. Overall, the bus/train ticket prices do not need to be raised. Cost of living is expensive enough! Encouraging people to take public transport, frees up the road a bit. Less congestion, less air pollution, less traffic, less traffic accidents etc

I think the good compromise would be the the transport industry as a whole to amend child fares from under 16 to instead be under 19 (or 5-18). I believe one of the reasons why child fares were set at under 16 was because that was school age and after school young people would then be expected to get a job. Further education didn't have as much uptake previously. Now though, further education has a higher uptake (least it feels that way), and in England at least you are meant to remain in education until 18. As such adjusting the age would reflect the current ways of young people in the UK which is staying in education and young people not earning money until generally a later age.

There is a good argument too that the government don't treat people like adults until they are 18 either so why should young people be paying adult prices for things when in almost all ways, they are still treated like children.

It'd save operators a lot of faffing and partnerships and stuff too as they wouldn't need to keep working with colleges to get discounted fares (the fares would largely be low enough as it is) and it'd save colleges a lot of time and money for the same reason, but also they won't feel the need as much to procure separate buses if the core bus network will be reasonably priced enough that they won't feel the need to subsidise fares or services as much (granted this will only help where colleges are close to decent public transport. Not much use for rural colleges).
