At least they are doing Manchester Airport (well it was in the plan) and Birmingham International, so there are some park and ride type stations on HS2.

You were surely not expecting free parking?£££ for parking though given it’s an airport.
And Manchester airport is off the M6.

Maybe I am too used to Heathrow prices. But depending on your trip it can make sense to get a taxi both ways rather than paying for parking. You were surely not expecting free parking?
Bristol Parkway (which is well used despite not being that close to the M4) is well used and charges quite a lot. I do not know the parking price at Stockport but it justified building a multi-storey car park.

They were simply incompetent by on everything. That's all the more why a suburban London one is a strange omission! I wonder if they thought Old Oak would fulfil that role? But it isn't even nearly far enough out for that, much as it will be well used by those from the areas around it.
OOC does perform a useful role as an interchange. That's all the more why a suburban London one is a strange omission! I wonder if they thought Old Oak would fulfil that role? But it isn't even nearly far enough out for that, much as it will be well used by those from the areas around it.

Park in a local supermarket for HeathrowMaybe I am too used to Heathrow prices. But depending on your trip it can make sense to get a taxi both ways rather than paying for parking.
And, importantly, still very busy.Stockport appears to be a whacking £17.50, it's NCP operated, not operated by Avanti who seem to charge £12.50 more or less everywhere. Cheaper than Sheffield though!
Not awful. The multi storey at International is £12.50 a day, which is pretty standard for Avanti stations. Luton Airport Parkway appears to be £10.60 a day. Both are pretty good bets for airport parking given the lower cost than airport car parks and easy connection (though obviously chargeable at Luton) but most people just don't think to do that!
Park in a local supermarket for Heathrow![]()
Apologies if I’ve missed any tongue-in-cheek, but this is NOT how a democracy is run.Not awful.
Maybe you give people in bucks £100 of parking vouchers for interchange? And a free return trip?
I haven't got one yetI was going to say "but you'll get a ticket", but the ticket is probably cheaper than Heathrow parking![]()

It always interested me how many of the stations sprang up multi-storey car parks after VHF. Preston got one too.
It’s basic commercial practice/compensation for the inconvenience of the construction.Apologies if I’ve missed any tongue-in-cheek, but this is NOT how a democracy is run.
Question is the politics. But yes.Indeed. An HS2 Parkway could easily charge 20 quid a day and get plenty of custom
Which is what is even more odd, parking charges might even pay for the station one day. Never mind the benefits for the local areas.I'm not sure what the relevance of a commercial offering of discounted use of a new station to promote its further full price use is to a political system?

I would assume any additional stations could be paid for with private money. Perhaps you would need a cut of the tickets as well as parking. Not sure.Which is what is even more odd, parking charges might even pay for the station one day. Never mind the benefits for the local areas.
There are plenty of local discounts out there, as well as incentives to try new services.
Developer contribution... That will annoy the NIMBYsI would assume any additional stations could be paid for with private money. Perhaps you would need a cut of the tickets as well as parking. Not sure.
What are you calling the line they are building?I know this is a Speculative Forum, but feel that I must ask that if there is no such entity now as HS2, does it really matter how many stations are to be there on it...![]()
Certainly not the HS2 (a), (b), (c), onward versions of HS2.What are you calling the line they are building?
They are building the one upon which all stations mentioned in this thread (that were not included on plans that have been through parliament), and to the best of my knowledge, that is still using the name HS2.Certainly not the HS2 (a), (b), (c), onward versions of HS2.
IF you are prepared to do the intermediate stops and have a 300/320km/h top speed then Handacre-Crewe or Handacre-Whitmore plus Birmingham airport to east midlands airport are both very very doable. Probably they could be funded with private money quite frankly.I know this is a Speculative Forum, but feel that I must ask that if there is no such line extentions northward entity now on HS2, does it really matter how many stations are to be there on it...![]()
It will annoy the BANANAs. The softer people will be Ok with it.Developer contribution... That will annoy the NIMBYs
The problem oft cited is that the houses in housing developments are seen as being not affordable by a great number of people these days. When I have spoken to the voters ~0 of them are typically against housing development unless it is particularly unreasonable for some sensible reason. Presumably those who are against more sensible stuff are far right and wouldn’t speak to someone centre/left.
That can be argued against though. The problem oft cited is that the houses in housing developments are seen as being not affordable by a great number of people these days.
You need to get onto the New Towns Taskforce, as pretty much everywhere I have been has been fully against new housing developments.IF you are prepared to do the intermediate stops and have a 300/320km/h top speed then Handacre-Crewe or Handacre-Whitmore plus Birmingham airport to east midlands airport are both very very doable. HS2 has ~95% opposition in Buckinghamshire. Do a few common sense things and that would reduce to like 5-10%.

the challenge is that Calvert which gives you the rail links is pretty far from the main roads. And also as everyone reasonably argues you don’t want to do a dozen stops.A HS2 station somewhere near the A43 with a medium-density housing development
Maybe the south east is more pro housing given how expensive it is?You need to get onto the New Towns Taskforce, as pretty much everywhere I have been has been fully against new housing developments
