Should the layout at Kentish Town be altered?

North London or Mildmay line
Okay, so, here’s an idea I came up with while thinking about the Rainham service terminating at Kentish Town from Dec.

How about:

Turning the main down slow line into the one going through platform 4, with an additional crossover at Dock Jn North to get trains from the Low Level to the “Up & Down Slow” line, leading to P4.

Then turn 2 and 3 into terminating/flexible through roads, for terminating trains particularly in disruption on the MML while still going through the core.

Or alternatively:
Another, cheaper alternative would be to use P3 as the down platform, and turn P2 only into a bi-directional middle road, with a new crossover just south of Kentish Town allowing movement from P2 to the Up line. This would seem easier and more achievable.

This would mean the up line would be through P1 as now, the down line would be through the Dock Junction North crossover onto P3 and back on just north of Kentish Town, while the existing down line from Dock Jn North to Kentish Town would be solely for terminating or through (P2 could be used as overflow/overtaking as required) trains into P2, which when departing southbound would crossover to the Up line.

What do you think - is this sensible? It just strikes me that the current layout at Kentish Town isn’t ideal for terminating trains.

It was looked at by the Thameslink programme. Can’t remember why it didn’t proceed, but it certainly wasn’t cheap.
