Should the Bakerloop bus route be shown on Bakerloo in carriage maps?

The Bakerloop (BL1) express bus is a express bus down the Old Kent Road from Waterloo to Lewisham which will parallel the safeguarded Bakerloo line extension route.

Setting aside my scepticism that the bus is simply a kicking the can down the road on pushing back the actual BLE, I think that the bus should be featured on the Bakerloo in car route map, and perhaps even the tube map to keep the extension in the public conversation

It’s a handy link even without it being a pre BLE route, Old Kent Road is a growing inner London area and is somewhat a railway desert for an area so close to zone one, the nearest station to it is South Bermondsey and even I think this is a stretch.

I think it’ll keep the extension in the public eye, it’ll also put more of South London on the map and highlight new connections

Perhaps it could be added to the interchange options at Waterloo and the Elephant (and maybe similar could be done with the Superloop network more broadly), though.

Without sounding pedantic but isn’t the Bakerloop a sort of preemptive bus replacement until the extension opens?

But you are right that interchange blobs should be added to Waterloo and Elephant & Castle on the map

I'm going to be slightly cynical here, but I see all the Superloop buses as a temporary solution until we can figure out an outer orbital rail route proper (even Boris suggested this way back). Traffic is a huge issue for quite a lot of them.

I don't think putting a bus route on a tube train carriage map makes any sense, this may cause confusion and therefore doesn't seem like it would be TfL's cup of tea. However interchange blobs to the wider Superloop network as stated by others may make more sense.

No. As much as I would love for it to be, its a bus route (superloop specifically), branded as a "tube" line, but a bus, non the less

If tfl want to the public to notice the potential for an extension or bring it to light more, specific ads or notices should be devised.

You are really opening up a can of worms with that though, if it happened - Why not show chiltern on Met line maps, after all, the Aylesbury line is effectively an extension (and an express version) of the Mets Amersham line.

I still find it hilarious that the Bakerloop, effectively a spin off of the actual line, uses brand new, clean and shiny stock yet the actual Bakerloo line uses one of the most clapped out stocks in the country!

This reminds me of the hoo-ha when Thameslink was added to the Tube Map. I still don't understand the justification for that, and that is arguably more justifiable since it is on the same fare scale for combined journeys.

Thameslink makes so much sense to show, that, alongside the NCL should have always have been there. Tfl or not, they are still routes across London and can help to reduce congestion on neighbouring lines.

Some of the routes are basically warmed up versions of far grander schemes planned in the 2000s.

The SL11 which replaced the 472 is basically the Greenwich Waterfront Transit by the backdoor.

While the SL8, formerly the 607 and paralleling the 207 & 427 routes is the West London Tram in bus form.

The SL4 serves as a route designed to ferry commuters to the Docklands without them overburdening the railheads at Lewisham and North Greenwich.

As for the routes that form the Superloop around London you raise and interesting point that these are preemptive routes for a outer London rail orbital route.

I reckon at the very least, there should be posters on the Bakerloo trains advertising the Bakerloop as an onward suggestion. There are barely any adverts on them anymore, so it would make those vacant advert spaces look less bare with any Bakerloop adverts, especially if they made it obvious that it's a bus route.
