Should I wait?

Hi

It is two months before I need to travel from Chester to London, Euston. I need to travel early Sat. morning the 30th of May. The prices are just astranomical (65 vs normal price of 15) and this is 2 months beforehand!

My question: should I wait to see whether they offer any specials any day soon, or is your experience that prices will only get worse?

Thanks

They have released advance tickets for that date - you can check on the Virgin Trains website.

However, that is FA cup final day - and one of the North-West clubs will be in it, which explains why there are no cheap advance tickets on that morning - they are available in the afternoon.

It could be lowered further to £45.50/£46.50 if you get a first class advance fare ;). But I'm afraid that's the cheapest it's going to go (unless you want to split your tickets - I'm sure someone with some more patience than me can check to see if this is worth it, though).

Looking up the journey those are no cheap advance fares early on that day. Oddly if you were to get the 07:17, getting into Euston at 09:30, it'd be cheaper to go first class at £45.50. All of the standard class advance fares are £77, which is more expensive than the flexible off peak single at £65.40. The latter is valid on any train on a Saturday.

If you were happy to leave at 12:35 and arrive at 14:38 there are £15.00 fares available, after that until the evening they are £8.

They shouldn't get any cheaper as the cheapest seats are already available later on in the day.

It should be illegal to sell an Advance fare for more than a walk-on fare valid for the same train!
