should i buy railworks?

Hi guys

I am thinking about buying railworks, as i am a fan of MSTS. I have read the reviews and would like your opinions on wether at the moment railworks is worth buying.

i prefer railworks now. watch out though as add ons cost you money aswell for example to download the 66 itll cost you around £9.99. I like railwors as you get show many other computer controlled trains passing you when on a scenario and if you run late, other trains will take your time slot.

The thing with RailWorks is that you only ever need buy it once. RS.com provide free upgrades to it as development progresses. So even if someone says its not worth buying now, it may be in the future, but the price may have gone up by then.

Steam had it on offer for around £12 back in March-April. Missed that and ended up paying £29.99 for it.

Keep an eye out for offers before you purchase!!

I bought Railworks about a week ago and the only thing I can say against it is that it's highly addictive. I'm new to it, still learning the ropes, but I've built 5 miles of my own route and landscaped part of it and everything works OK except signals that I'm still experimenting with. The realism is good unless you get really close to anything, but that's the same with most 3D environements. To me Railworks is a lot more involving and a lot cheaper than creating a model railway in the spare bedroom!

The ready-to-run routes that come with Railworks are amazing - especially the Somerset & Dorset from Bath to Templecombe in the snow, for instance.

For me the frame rate and smoothness is good - a lot better than one might be led to believe by watching jerky YouTube videos of Railworks - it's not like that at all, not for me anyway.

Today we managed to save and transfer my route from one computer to another, which is nice to know.

Yes since buying railworks, i have become a big fan of it. It is really addictive to play, and the level of realism is just excellent. I am trying to teach myself how to build scenarios as i did enjoy making my own on MSTS.

Its great, I reccomend the route knowen as "Wales and Borders" it'll keep you going for a bit

The route itself is free and is available over at www.uktrainsim.com

It does require the IOW addon though as many assets are used from it. There is also a long list of free downloads required to get it running as intended.

If not, an easier alternative is the latest version of my free route, Cresston V3. For this, you just need to download three extra fencing assets as mentioned in the readme.

I love RailWorks, but my computer doesn't have as much memory it requires to play it properly and the game just keeps sticking/
