With the scaled back nature of HS2, there will be less of a need for portion working requiring two 200m units to make the most out of the 400m maximum length, thus more services running as single units, with fixed 400m long trains only likely to be used on services from London Euston to...

and because HS2 train lengths are impacted by this plan to split and join services I thought it would make an interesting discussion whenever or not HS2 services should split and join!

So do you think HS2 services should split and join ?

Regardless as to the length of trains, just the principle behind splitting and joining!

If HS2 is built in full, yes.

If HS2 is not built in full, pragmatism says to use shorter trains of lengths appropriate to the traffic.

Regardless as to the length of trains, just the principle behind splitting and joining!

Admittedly, it is commuter trains not Inter-City trains, but trains have split and joined for years in London and the South-East. So why shouldn't HS2 trains split with say one train to travel to Glasgow and one to Edingburgh?
