What makes you say that?

For me it makes perfect sense the primary route to London is operated by FCC, ONE operate stopping services to Liverpool Street and the Norwich services, and the fact that this happened may well be hang over from the old West Anglia primary route days.

More odd than Cambridge is that Ely is also managed by One, when all but about 2 London services a day are run by FCC and have been for over 10 years

You're forgetting that Ely gets all those lovely Norwich to Cambridge services, the Peterborough to Liv St trains (once the line reopens to Chippenham Junction) and a total of nine direct services to Liv St (4 up and 5 down).

I think you might also be surprised just how many folk join the Liv St services from Cambridge. Sure it's quicker to get to KX on the non-stop services, but that's no good if you work in the City or Docklands. The longer journey time to Liv St more than outweighs the time saving by not having to schlep across from the Cross on the tube.

These were running when I was in the Colchester area on Saturday. I presume that they went direct, rather than via Cambridge or some other diversionary route.

That route reopened just before Christmas and the direct services resumed then
