Should all ticket sales, gate/ticket inspection, and train load data be published?

When discussing fares reform/simplification suggestions are commonly rebutted that said change will adversely effect many passengers. There is currently no way of knowing if this is true.

Therefore should all ticket sales data and gate/ticket inspection data, of course anonymised, be published so that interested parties, user groups etc can validate their\government proposals.

I'm not sure what it would actually show ir prove? Can you elaborate?

Amateur data analysts would love it. It may be hard to anonymise some of it, especially the inspection data at small stations.

Yes - the complete lack of transparency for a publically funded railway is disgraceful. If the CAA can require private sector airlines to provide their passenger numbers by route, which are then published in aggregate, then I don't see why we cannot require publically funded TOCs to do the same.

I had hoped that the publication of station usage numbers was the first step in achieving this but it has not progressed beyond that. There was a time when you could FOI data from DfT or ORR but they now claim its not their data and they can not release it even though they hold it.

At a minimum, all Lennon data should be in the public domain
