The government go on about air quality what about people sitting with no seat belt and people standing in a bus doing 50MPH+ on motorways and dual carriageways.

If you drive your car and your kids are in the back with no seat belts and you crash at 40mph+ is there a safety issue?.Do the accident statistics bear out such a requirement being sensible? It's easy to board the outrage bus about things that "look wrong", but is there an actual safety issue?

Yes if they crash what is safer bus with seat belts or bus without?.That was not the question I asked, and is more an emotive one.
Safety policy decisions should never, ever be made for emotive reasons, they should be made and considered exclusively using fact.
So, again, do the accident statistics bear out that bus services on motorways without seat belts are causing a safety issue?
What’s that got to do with air quality? The government go on about air quality what about people sitting with no seat belt and people standing in a bus doing 50MPH+ on motorways and dual carriageways.
People say the operators can,t afford to put seat belts on buses they can,t afford to convert a bus from euro4 to euro6 but they are because there getting a grant from government so why not a grant for seat belts for peoples saftey. What’s that got to do with air quality?

I know of very few buses that do 50mph+ on a motorway with standing passengers.
I put mortorways and dual carriageway but really what i was meaning was buses being used on high speed routes anywhere above 30mph.On that basis all bus services should have seat belts. The trouble is that if buses could not carry standees there wouldn't be more buses, some just wouldn't be able to travel and would drive.
So again, is there statistical evidence that there is a specific issue on motorways? I suspect there is not; I'd expect if there is going to be one anywhere it's more likely to be on a 60mph single carriageway where an accident is much more likely.
Well if that is true it,s worse because they can,t keep up with flow of traffic?.I know of very few buses that do 50mph+ on a motorway with standing passengers.
(To be clear, I am only talking about pure buses - not express and private hire coaches which do have seatbelts and do not carry standing passengers, officially anyway).

What does this mean? can you provide some sources? and what do you think the position should be?The government go on about air quality
Do you have any examples of this?what about people sitting with no seat belt and people standing in a bus doing 50MPH+ on motorways and dual carriageways.
There is no general legal need to have seat belts, it only applies from a certain date and for certain vehicle types. If the seat belts are fitted there is a legal need to use them, and to remind passengers to do this.I'm not sure whether it is a legal requirement for passengers to use seat belts when on a coach although I know it is a requirement to have them fitted

Plenty of full buses on the dual carriageways around London.
My question is for safety of passengers should urban buses as there called have seat belts. Why does the driver have a seat belt on urban buses?
Example of what where i live in glasgow motorway weekday morning or evening you will see urban buses fully loaded with standing passengers. What does this mean? can you provide some sources? and what do you think the position should be?
Do you have any examples of this?
all buses have driver seat belts at least for last 15 yearsThe driver usually doesn't.
You're going to have to show your working out. Are bus crashes common? Are injured standees common?
all buses have driver seat belts at least for last 15 years

Well if this true why are they not being charged by police if i drive on motorway no seat belt i get done or are bus drivers exempt.Even if this is true, they are not commonly found strapping the driver in.
That,s why it has do not move cover on steering wheel because the seat belt is missing
But i know all this but is it safe or should there be a change in the law stagecoach e400mmc on x25 glasgow to cumbernauld have seat belts why? There are loads of services around Glasgow operating on the M8/M77 with standing passengers. All McGills services to Inverclyde, Stagecoach routes to Easterhouse, Cumbernauld etc and a multitude of First routes too. No seatbelts either, even on the latest 68 plate vehicles. The first buses with driver seatbelts were around 2011 and it's "recommended " that drivers wear them. There are still hundreds of buses around Glasgow with no seat belt for the driver. It's perfectly legal, as it is for a taxi drivers not to wear a seat belt.
