Shotton?

Hi,

I'm after some gen on Shotton station, in particular interchange between the low level and high level trains for a future trip.

Looking on NRE it appears there is a walkway between the Northbound High Level and Westbound Low level platforms and I think there is a footbridge at the low level but cant see any way of crossing the high level lines except by the main road at the South end.

How long realistically would it take to transfer from a Llandudno bound Low Level to a Wrexham Train, and also from a Northbound High level to a Crewe bound train?

Having done a Wrexham bound to a Llandudno bound it took me 5 minutes at an idle stroll. I'd leave 10 minutes to be on the safe side.

Not as such, there's a pathway from north end of the Bidston-bound platform that leads you onto a footbridge for the North Wales Coast platforms. Anyone heading to Wrexham would need to leave the platform, onto the road beneath, then back up on the Bidston platform, walk the length of that and onto the footpath from there.

The annoying thing is I only have 9 minutes from a Llandudno train onto a Wrexham train.

There used to be an official pedestrian crossing across the high-level tracks until a few years ago. (North end of high level platforms). There was a sign next to it which said "No crossing the tracks except at this point" or something similar.

I suppose it must have been removed for safety reasons. In particular the two trains on the Bidston-Wrexham line often pass just to the south of or around about Shotton station.

So yes, indeed now the only way to get across is along the pavement under the bridge as previously stated, this undoubtedly takes longer than it used to.

Often touch and go coming from Wirral onto the North Wales coast line whether the connection will be made or not. Going the other way from low level to high level you might possibly benefit from the cumulative delay that tends to build up throughout the day on the Borderlands line. (Trains typically running five minutes late, often more in the late afternoon/evenings).

Thanks very much everybody for the gen.

I've got a 12 minute connection from a Chester-Holyhead onto the Shotton-Wrexham, so as long as the North Wales train is not very late (looking on Raildar it often runs up to 3 mins late! ) I should make the connection if I dont hang around.
There is engineering work that Sunday (13/9) so the Borderlands service is only running Hawarden Bridge - Wrexham so it probably wont do me any late running favours, as it appears to have loads of recovery time at Hawarden Bridge.

I' guessing from what others have mentioned that I'd probably be best getting off as far at the back of the Chester train, and my route would be -
up the steps on the Chester Line,
along the Bidston platform to the end,
down the ramp to the road,
Under the rail bridge
Up onto the Wrexham Platform.

Shotton High Level from the Chester Road.
The path comes on to the Bidston platform then it's down the stairs and under the bridge on the picture and back up this side to the Wrexham platform.
If you miss the train there is a reasonable Wetherspoons the other side of the bridge.

I made the +6 at Shotton yesterday by getting off the Llandudno train, running down the ramp and past a park on the pavement. At the end of that road I turned left and went under the bridge before going up the steep cobbled road to Shotton, Wrexham bound platform. It taken me 3 minutes.
