2 and half weeks ago I received an email informing me I’ve been shortlisted for an Interview with northern (conductor). Just waiting for time, date and location to be confirmed.

I was wondering what I can expect from the interview. I had an interview with grand central last year and was just me and 2 interviewees. Will it be something similar or group etc.

Congratulations firstly!

But it's actually a fun half day. For me it started with an interview, with the usual questions, name a time you've done this? How would you deal with xyz? Typical interview questions if i'm honest, they basically figure out the sort of person you are with the questions asked. Make sure you also do a bit of reserach about Northern and well Arriva in general. The more you know the better imo.

Then there was a group exercise. You all say a little about yourselves. I would say, try to make sure you bring a watch, we had a time limit in our exercise, and we had to keep tabs on the time, not the assessors. And a watch looks a lot more appealing than wacking a phone on the table.

Just out of curiosity, where did you apply for?

Give them a gentle nudge, you don't want to rock the boat too much at this stage. But also keep an eye on your spam folder. All emails I receive from Northern and Arriva in general end up in my spam.

That’s where mine have been going too. I’m checking both folders 10-15 times daily.

Well done

You have got passed the assessment stage which alot of people don't.

You will receive an email with all details and a guide on how to prepare.
I had two people interviewing me, mainly one asking q's? and the other writing down your answer.
They were very friendly and very welcoming.
I suggest you practice practice practice your interview with someone. It will help you and ultimately show in interview how prepared you are.
The 4 C's is how I approached my interview
Calm, Concise, Composed and Confident.

Good Luck.

Thank you.

Must be about my 30th application with northern and first interview so trying to prepare the best I can. Knowing how hard it is just to get an interview, due to the sheer numbers of applicants I’m going to give everything I’ve got to be successful.

I did mine in my spare room so I had no distractions. Make sure you read (and re-read if needs be) the questions and have a calculator for the numerical one. And don’t focus too much on the time available. I’ve heard they are not looking for a certain percentage as such, just more how you answer.

And most of all, as basic as it sounds, just relax before you click the start test button.

Good luck and hope I’ve been of some help.

I’ve since had my interview/assessment day and pleased to say I’ve been successful subject to medical. Fairly confident I should pass the medical.

Needless to say I’m over the moon just one more hurdle to get over then I can start my dream career.

COngratulations on getting the interveiw! Done well to get to that stage!

My interview was at sunderlands ground (girlfriends a geordie ha) and you all meet up and in a room. They come and gef you for interveiw which is with two interveiwer. Ask you the normal interveiw questions, life and work experiances etc.

Then a group discussion. My group we had all met in the waiting room so we clicked realy well, you had to look at a northern station and coming up with ideas on how to improve the service. I would say the research is important amd vveiw a station. You also have a 25 minite time limit you cant go over or under so jave a man on the clock!

Lastly im 10 years in construction so a complete new industy and job for me (wanted the change) and i got through!! I was amazed and over the moon! So good luck and be aware it takes months acter interview until the medical!
