Shortest scheduled service

Hello, inspired by the closest stations thread and my subsequent discovery of the Ryde St Johns Road to Ryde Pier Head service, I was wondering what the shortest scheduled services - both in distance and in time - in the UK are?

I offer the St Johns Road - Pier Head (of which there are three a day) as a good one to start with: time is 6 minutes, distance is 1mi 19ch.

Newcastle - Metrocentre often only takes 7 mins, not sure about the distance.

Newc - Metro is about 3.5 miles (max).

What about Waterloo - Bank. That can only be about 2 miles at the very most.

There are 2 trains timetabled from Exeter Central - St Davids only

2E47 18:58 Central - St Davids arr 19:02
2E57 21:55 Central - St Davids arr 22:00

The distance is 62 chains - this makes the average speed of 2E57 a mind numbing 9.3 miles per hour!

Is this the slowest train in the timetable?

I was think Brighton - Hove too - it's 1.7 miles by road, probably slightly less by rail.

Don't know if it's shortest, but Grove Park to Bromley North. 5 minutes (probably padded too) and 1mi 49ch.

This is actually part of a very long service, 06:39 Perth - Newcraighall

There aren't that many short services in Scotland any more
Glasgow - Anniesland, most services are 19 minutes
Glasgow - Paisley Canal, most services are 18 minutes
20:08 Newcraighall - Haymarket 20:26
07:34 Lenzie - Glasgow 07:47
06:45 Coatbridge - Cumbernauld 06:57
06:10 Motherwell - Coatbridge 06:21 seems to be the winner in Scotland

It was answered at the very beginning of the thread. Stourbridge Junction to Stourbridge Town. It is two thirds of a mile from starting point to terminating point and has a rather generous three minutes in which to make that trip. Runs every five minutes or so (if you include both directions) pretty much all day and I imagine it is soul destroying to work on.
That said, the driver and guard always seem cheerful whenever I use it. Even more so now the Parry People Mover works the service in fact.

And just to take this down a tangent because I feel like it, Warwick Parkway to Warwick, about a mile and 60mph is about when its time to put the brakes in on the up. Aylesbury to Stoke Mandeville would warrant an honourable mention too.

Probably not the shortest but Lincoln Central- Newark Northgate, iirc its a little over 20 miles and about half an hour.

Galton bridge - the hawthorns 0.60miles 2 minutes journey time. Does that count (admittedly no trains start/finish at these 2 points but they both are calling points on the Stourbridge Jctn - Moor Street services)?

Honourable mention to the 05something Wrexham General–Wrexham Central, which is there because the train stables at General overnight rather than Central.

St. Erth to St. Ives must be up there with the shortest regular services - I'd guess at around four miles. Even manages up to three intermediate stops on the way.

No, it doesn't, for that very reason

I think conclusively we can say the answer is the Stourbridge Branch.

Cardiff Queen Street to Cardiff Bay. 4 minutes long. 5 departures per hour.
Not bad and its 10p cheaper than the bus.

For some reason I thought there was still a summer service from Ryde Pier Head terminating at Ryde Esplanade station (and vice-versa). Looks like I'm way out of date.

Isn't this thread about shortest end to end services, not shortest services between Stations which should go in the closest Stations thread?

Think Stourbridge Town to Stourbridge Junction is the winner, but others are Liverpool Central-Kirkby about 7 miles & 7 Stations, & North Bromely-Grove Park
