Shortest HST journey?

Not sure if suited here, but it's about HSTs so thought it should be in the Rolling stock forum.

What is the shortest journey possible on a HST - also, what is the shortest one out of London (I think it may be Paddington-Slough?) and what is the shortest to hit 125?

For shortest, probably Edinburgh Waverley to Haymarket, at just over 1 mile.

shortest i can think of that would hit 125 would be somewhere between grantham and york on some of the various short stretches on the grantham-newark-retford-doncaster-york depending on stopping pattern

Shortest to hit 125 would possibly be Darlington - Northallerton once you hit the 125 section south of Cowton Crossovers.

So, 50 chains is 1006m. A 2+8 HST is 220m.

These official distances- are they measured from a single datum point at the station? If so, what's the actual distance, ramp-to-ramp?

Not possibly very often, but when FGW ran an HST to Exmouth. Exeter Central-St James' Park (Exeter): 0m 38ch
Exton-Lympstone Commando: 0m 36ch (Although if you try that one you will be arrested by the military police for getting off at Lympstone Commando station.

I was going to bring that one up, complete with photo to show just how close the two stations are. The HST you can see is stopped at Lympstone Commando.

Which in a way, is rather odd that it remains for the sole use of Commandos...When the new Exe Estuary cycle path runs in-between Lympstone Commandos fence line and the railway!

Yeh, it's very odd that you can't get off there for the cycle path. Anybody who did get off there would have to go on to the cycle path first. You could just use Exton of course, they are so close.

I dont have the exact mileages to hand but Kilgetty - Saundersfoot and Tenby - Penally on the summer saturday Pembroke dock services are pretty bloody short. I'll double check the exact mileages in the SA when I get in.
