I'm i just over thinking things or do companies only list some vacancies for a small amount of time due to the number of positions available.

I guess its due to the high number of applicants? Or have I misunderstood your question? :P

I don't mean them being closed earlier than stated for example.

FTPE liverpool was open around a week

FTPE Blackpool and hull nearly two months

So curious if it's down the number of vacancies at the depot. Liverpool is new and I would assume quite small which could also be a factor

Normally the longer applications are for rolling recruitment drives, ie looking to replace vacancies long term so looking ahead the 5 drivers are due to retire next year plus other natural wastage.

Short applications tend to be looking to fill a more 'urgent' position a lot sooner. With train driver jobs, due to the high volume if applicants, the TOCs tend to get enough applications to work with in the first couple of days so it's down to how picky they want to be.

At Northern's their trainee vacancies tend to open and close within 24hrs. I think they are normally recruit as the odd driver retires/moves on so it is more of a trickle.

Not sure how it would be with qualified drivers though?

It is certainly down to volume of applicants. Having previously done screening I know that some attract 1000-2000 applicants per post. Makes me laugh about Virgin, who left a Train Manager post open in autumn for three weeks, received over 7,400 applicants, then claim they sifted all of them?!? Nah.
