Short Platforms - What used to happen?

11-coach trains stopping at local stations between Norwich & Great Yarmouth. No PA no CDL & if you tried to get out of a carriage not adjacent to the platform & hurt yourself then tough you are an idiot. Happy days!!

This reminds me of something my ex- mentioned once - she was on an train to somewhere in Wales, which split mid-way through the journey. The platforms PIS (at a station she had never been to before) said "Front coaches for X, rear coaches for Y". The problem being that she had no idea which the "Front" was (the train was already at the platform when she arrived. Turned out her guess was lucky, but announcements are not always helpful!
