"Short Notice Timetable Alterations" Manchester Piccadilly 24-May

I passed through Piccadilly several times today and this reason was being given for multiple cancellations by Northern on several routes, not associated with the New Mills problems. A couple of Euston services were cancelled too. I didn't have time to try to work out what was actually going on - anyone know?

Usually staffing related (As are most of Northern's cancellations).
Bank holiday weekends are always like this.

"A shortage of train crew" is in most cases more accurate but TOCs play these games with cancellation messages where they don't tell you what's actually happening sometimes.
