I’ve bought Sketchers Workwear for the last few years and been impressed. Not keen on the complimentary footwear offered by my TOC. We get £30 expenses towards them which covers about 50% of the cost. Steel toecaps.

Safety Brands are very comfortable with a non slip sole and steel toe, the only downside being they aren't fully waterproof. They're about £35 and mine were delivered within 48hrs.

Does each TOC specify what type of boot/shoe you need to wear? Does this depend on the type of work you do as a driver - how much walking, where you're walking, the type of surface you're walking on etc?

Seems to depend where. My old TOC used to specify steel toe caps, my current TOC lets people wear pretty much whatever they want.

As a driver I have found that the ones my TOC try to give me are hard wearing except for the inside heel. It wears down within months and so I also have now moved to sketchers workwear. There is no requirement to have steel toecaps anymore but I would certainly still recommend it!

Some Tocs actually try funnel you into picking from a small selection but they normally have a catalogue and if you ask nicely you can pick anything from it.
