Do you know what sort of hours the night turns are??
Also, sorry to act dumb; what does she’d and ferry run mean?
Is Oxford depot similar?
Thanks again!
Regarding shift times: How easy is it to do permenant shift swaps, ie: earlies for lates and vice versa?
Also, on average; how many years does it take to get onto mainline driving?
Thanks
If LFC78 is referring to driver role, rather than depot driver or Mano, then the shift pattern is a 4 day week plus committed ‘outside’ Sundays roughly 1 in 3, althought you can post your Sunday on the board if you don’t want it and you’ll find a volunteer.
Current proposal is for Sundays to be ‘inside’ and part of the 4 day week by January 2021.
5 day long weekend every 3 weeks.
You are mainline straight away.
4 links, currently only link 1 sign 800s, soon to be joined by link 2, probably in May. These 2 links will also sign 769s.
Lower links sign 387 and Turbo.
There are lots of drivers with permanent swaps for Earlies/Lates - easier to find if you want the lates rather than the earlies but you can always find someone. These swaps work well and is much better for fatigue risk.
Reading is a large depot (approx 220 drivers) with lots going on - good route variety for you even when new.
With new depots opening it’s been quicker than expected last few yearsThanks for that, does it take years to progress through links? Contemplating moving TOC.....
Thank you. With new depots opening it’s been quicker than expected last few years
There’s not much difference between links TBH
Only real difference is links 1 & 2 sign North downs to Redhill & Gatwick instead of Windsor and Marlow branch lines. Takes around 5-6 years on average to go from 4 to 2. This obviously depends on moves and retirements etc at any given time.
Fantastic insight KT530. Thanks for sharing.
You don't happen to know similar for Oxford drivers at all?
Hello,
I’ve just applied for a part time manoeuvre maintainer at reading depot.
Is 18.5hrs 2 shifts or they spread it during the week.
Also what’s the salary please? Any information would be much appreciated.
Hello FGW_DIDI’ll drop you a PM about above and also the other questions you asked in your other post about the Mano role at Reading.
