Shepreth branch junction - foot crossing replacement

This will cheer those on here thaat drive trains through Shepreth branch Junction (just south of Cambridge)- there is a planning application in to replace the foot crossing with a bridge.
Whilst a direct link is impossible (due to the trpical terrible local council website) if you search for S/2060/13/FL on the South Cambs District Council planning site you'll find the details.

Closing this foot crossing (and Network Rail are negotiating to close the private farm vehicle access across here as well) will presumably allow the lifting of the TSR through the junction.

Installing the bridge will require a suspension of FCC, Greater Anglia and XC services south of Cambridge. Previously, when installing the road and guided bus bridges,, this meant bus replacement from Cambridge to Audley End, Stansted and Royston.

seems that they're hoping to close the next crossing northwards (Dukes) by getting access to the fields from the Addenbrookes access road. That'll mean no level crossings between Shepreth Branch Junction and Cambridge

I thought dukes was already closed? You certainly won't get any road vehicles over it as the boards have been removed across the railway so you would be driving over rails and ballast.

It seems it is officially still open- the boards may have gone but the gates remain. A tractor would easily manage that.

Never mind that the 35mph TSR for level crossing sighting has been replaced with a 20mph ESR on the 'Down'.

For sighting still, or for something else? My source says NR hope to install the bridge before the end of the financial year (start of April)
