Hi all, and thanks for all the passive help I've had from here!

I'm back to the UK for a visit, and a bit of a silly Saturday for me - want to go from Shepperton down to Brighton (ideally South West to Clapham Junction and then the fast(ish) Southern train) and later evening back up to Gatwick Airport (don't care about TOC much - but Thameslink more frequent than Southern later on).

Any advice on how to minimise costs - I assume not two singles...? Single and then a CDR maybe - but splitting where? Or a better option I've not thought of?

I hope to get a new Network Railcard on the Saturday, if that makes a difference. Thanks!

single from Shepperton to Clapham junction then the southern off peak day save works out at £25.

Thanks. That's GBP17.90 for the DaySave, right?

Wondering if I could get a Thameslink train back to Gatwick, if I were to get a nonrestricted off-peak CDR from Clapham Junction... those seem to be GBP15.85 with a Network Railcard.

There might be a cheaper combination but how about:

Shepperton - East Croydon Super Off Peak Day Return £6.20 (not via London) or £7.25 (+Any Permited)
East Croydon - Brighton Super Off Peak Day Return £6.95 (Thameslink only) or £12.85 (Any Permitted)

Prices quoted include Network Railcard discount. Your train will need to call at East Croydon.

That works pretty well - had not expected Shepperton to Clapham Junction and Shepperton to Croydon would be the same price...

The Southern from London Victoria to Brighton stops at Clapham Junction and East Croydon (and that's it), so a £4.95 Anytime Day Single first leg and a £12.85 Super Off Peak Day Return East Croydon to Brighton works really quite well.

Thanks!
