Noticed today that the list of destinations on at least two of the signs at Chancery Lane list "Shepherd's Bush Green". A quick search on Google and Wiki suggests it was never officially called this. Was it sometimes referred to this when Shepherd's Bush Market had the same name in order to alleviate confusion?

Officially, no: I think the name change was envisaged (hence its inclusion on a few line diagrams at certain stations), but it never actually went ahead.

Might have been an attempt to differentiate its location from Goldhawk Road on the Hmmersmith and City, especially from somewhere like Liverpool Street that serves them both.
