Is there a ticket that allows travel on the above route? Or would it require 2 tickets as per trainsplit?

NRE gives a fare from Shenfield-Upminster via Romford only, not via Southend stations. That would suggest that two tickets are required to travel via Southend.

A Romford to Southend return ticket (£14.10 for a Super Off Peak Return) would allow this journey, starting short at Shenfield, swapping from outward to return portion at Southend and finishing short at Romford. It is significantly cheaper than the split trainsplit offers, at least in Super Off Peak times.

Shenfield to Southend Central/Victoria fares are even cheaper, and are valid in the same way as Romford fares :)
