Sheffield to York

I've got a £5.20 advance ticket from Sheffield to York for Monday, but now find that if I travel earlier than booked I'll be able to meet some friends in York. I will need to arrive by around eleven.

I guess the £10 admin fee essentially makes my present ticket worthless?

What is the most cost effective way of making the journey? I see that there are still some more expensive advance tickets available, but I wonder if it's possible to save via a split ticket or some other method? I can take a slower route if that will save money.

You are right about the effect of the admin fee.

There is a £9.30 advance on the 0947 arriving 1039.

The cheapest split suggested by trainscanbecheaper using singles is Sheffield-Moorthorpe and Moorthorpe-York, total £15.50. This would be valid on the 0929 from Sheffield which arrives at 1048. So the new advance would be cheaper.
