I have to go to Walsall on Thursday and I am trying to find out if any split tickets exist.

I need to be in Walsall about 9am but at a push 9.30am.

None of the usual sites that I have tried seem to be showing anything

Unfortunately you have provided insufficient information for anyone to be able to provide an informed reply.

Please have a look at the sticky thread 'Please read before asking for fares advice' and have a look at some of the questions in there. Information such as when you will be returning is important.

A through ticket satisfying your requirement will cost an eye-watering £80.

Sheffield to Derby is £20.30 for an Anytime Day Return, and Derby to Walsall is £17.40 for an Anytime Day Return, so you can do this simple split and save over half. All trains between Sheffield and Birmingham New Street (which is the way I assume you would like to go) stop at Derby so you can stay on the same train.

Could they not use a Derbyshire Wayfarer for the Sheffield to Derby bit?

Edit ... aargh, sorry, too early, I read it as starting at 9am.

Also depending on the date you are travelling, check to see if there are any Advances between Derby and Sheffield. Even in the morning and evening peak there are some quite well-priced Advances, although you will probably have to change onto East Midlands Trains as XC's Advances cost more. Looking for tomorrow as an example, there are some £5 Advances each way for both the Outward and Return journeys between Derby and Sheffield.
