So, what are the actual possible permitted routes with a £57.20 Off Peak Return from Sheffield to/from Morecambe (route "Any Permitted")?

Changes at Manchester Oxford Road and then at Lancaster look to make for the quickest / most straightforward outbound journey, but, for variety, would return travel via, for example, Skipton/Leeds or indeed via Preston/Blackburn/Hebden Bridge also be possible, or maybe any other routes I've overlooked?

Via Leeds and Skipton is definitely valid. The return fare both ways via Skipton would be about £45 (anytime to Leeds, off-peak to Morecambe).

Looking at the pink pages (Section B of the routing guide), Sheffield is a routing point, and Morecambe's is Lancaster Group (Bare Lane).

Looking then at the Yellow Pages, the valid routes for Sheffield -> Lancaster Group are DW+MX DW+XW MM+LX PR+XP YK+NP+XP, the same list apply but reversed for the other direction.

DW + MX = Hope Valley line to Chinley, then any route to Manchester, then either Wigan (via Golborne)/Bolton then to Preston (including via Blackburn) then to Lancaster
DW + XW = Adds via Warrington between Manchester and Wigan as an option to the above
MM + LX = To Leeds (including but not limited to) via Huddersfield, Doncaster, or Wakefield), can go via Bradford after Leeds, then via the Bentham line.
PR + XP = Adds Hope Valley, Manchester, Atherton, Wigan as a valid route.
YK + NP + XP = To Wakefield via Mexbrough or Barnsley, then to Leeds (via Pontefract permitted), then via Bradford, Halifax, (Todmorden permitted), Burnley, and Blackburn to Preston, then direct to Lancaster

I think I got that all correct! There's a little more detail possible, but I'm assuming you generally want to go towards your destination.

You should be able to get trainsplit to generate any valid route with the right via points, although I've found it to be somewhat hit and miss with extremely complex ones (either that or I'm doing something wrong), but all of these should be fine.

@anothertyke. @pokemonsuper9.Thanks both. So, fairly flexible, provided the (TB) don't travel before 0900 weekday restriction is respected in both directions.
