Preferably getting into Basingstoke before 1pm.

No discount tickets.

Just had a quick look and there are advances available on the 08:27 from Sheffield to St Pancras then on to Basingstoke from Waterloo at £39 :) (gets you in at 12:30 - you're tied to that specific Sheffield-London service but can get any train out of Waterloo - for example if you're quicker crossing London)

Book on eastmidlandstrains.co.uk for 10% off that fare too :)

If you would rather not cross London and can put up with Cross country, but it does get in a bit late:

Sheffield Dep: 10:23
Reading Dep: 13:08
Reading dep: 13:39
Basingstoke arr: 14:03

£33 Cross Country advance - so tied to these trains.

I got that off LondonMidland :) so obivously if the op books on EMT Website, gets 10% off

Another Option i just thought of but probably not the best way is :

MegaBus Sheffield - Winchester Park and Ride (leaves sheffield at 0805)
Train Winchester - Basingstoke

only problem the bus gets to winchester for 13:10, and a 30min walk to station but it's cheap at £7.00, and then only £7.60 for the train to Basingstoke.

Or the park and ride bus to Winchester Station (50p ish), still 20mins though.

Mind you doing that you might just as well get a coach to Victoria and then another one to Basingstoke.

If preferring to go direct, with no changes:
09:23 Sheffield to Derby 09:52 £9.50 Off-Peak Day Single
09:53 Derby to Basingstoke 12:39 £25 Advance Single (if booked on XC website)
Total: £34.50

PS: It is the same train throughout.

Price £9.00.. It takes nearly 8hrs!!!!!

most of them do..! :)
