Sheffield - Glasgow

Hi,

Can anyone tell me the cheapest way to travel to Glasgow from Sheffield for 2 adults and 2 children with a family railcard. We don't mind if we do it over 2 days, say stopping overnight at possibly Carlise or somewhere on the East coast?. Would also like reserved seats. Dates : Outward 1st may returning on the 3rd May.

Very difficult to get anything cheap to travel up with on the 1st May with it being such short notice, a Friday and the beginning of a Bank Holiday Weekend.
The best I can find in both directions booked via National Express East Coast website with their 10% online discount is as follows:
Friday 1st May
Sheffield dep: 0724 for a total of £52.90 (changing at Doncaster and Edinburgh) arrive in Glasgow at 1219. I had to type in via York to get this.
Monday 3rd May
Departures from Glasgow almost every hour for £52.90 some with just one change.

An interesting alternative for the outward journey with a 0718 deprature from Sheffield by typing in via Appleby (Settle to Carlisle) this is a total of £68 changing at Leeds and Carlisle with an arrival in Glasgow at 1301.
The cheapest of the day is also via this route with a 1618 departure from Sheffield but not arriving in Glasgow until 2239 at only £35.70
