I've also received the same phone call so all been well on my medical I'll be starting on the 4th !! Going to struggle to get to the medical before next week so I'll be cutting it fine with my notice period but I think I'll be ok fingers crossed. Well done all for passing and getting a start date.

Thats great news! Bet you are over the moon?

Well done Mark :)

I was told there was only one position in August and one in October but some changes must have been made for us to both be starting in August which is good for me and you!

I go away on holiday on the 8th and I am also waiting to find out when my medical is, Luckily I left my previous job on the 14th of June so have no notice period to work.

Congratulations, Looking forward to meeting you.....Athough its possible we already have met on the Assessment day?

Great stuff :D

Regards Simon

Hi simon well done to you aswell :)

I'm really over the moon i'm excited about the opportunity if not a little nervous about the career change. I'm hoping for my medical next Friday as thats my only day off next week but that should still give me time to work my notice as I've still got some leave and accumulated hours in the bank which I've been assured will be enough for me to work 3 weeks notice.

I thought there was more positions than 2 am sure we'll find out start day all been well on the medicals just don't want to jinx it lol. looking forward to meeting you and getting stuck in to a new career :)

Hi all,

I passed the Conductor Assessment too but still waiting and praying that there are other places coming up soon. Is anyone out there in the same "Talent Pool" position as myself?

Good luck with your training guys!

Hello TMS,

I am guessing you are in the talent pool for the Sheffield position and had your assessment in June?

I know there where only 2 places for starting training in August, I got one and Mark got the other. I believe there might be some more positions in October also so it might be worth just hanging in there a little longer.

An E-mail to Northern Recruitment just stating you are still interested and would love to here about and future positions would not be a bad move.

Good luck!

Regards Simon

Thanks for your kind "prompt" reply Simon, much appreciated! Yes that's right, I understood there were 5 positions for Sheffield but must have been misinformed.

I was delighted I got through as I didn't think I had done too well on the day due to nerves! I'm just hoping I did enough to secure a future position and won't be released from the Talent Pool due to a low score. Do you have any idea how long NR keep people in the Talent Pools for?

I hope your training goes well, good luck for the 4th and with your future career as a Conductor.

There could well have been 5 positions for Sheffield, Possibly a combination of August and October?

As for Talent pools, Andrew32 is proof that patience is the key after he waited 13 months with Northern and was offered a position in Skipton. He is doing his training with me in August.

I will tell you that I also felt that on the day I didn't do too well on the Assessment but it just goes to show I was wrong and did much better than I thought as I was offered a position! :)

Keep us posted and hopefully you will get offered a position soon.

Thanks Simon

If your in the pool, they want to employ you, well done for getting this far and I'm sure you'll hear something in the not to distant future.

Well done TMS, Happy days indeed!

As Mark said the medical is nothing to worry about...

BP and heart rate monitored
Weight taken/BMI reading given
Eyesight vision test/Colour blindness test
Hearing test
Alcohol breath test
Drug test which is urine sample

Mine took about an hour but all went OK, Just make sure you are totally honest about any prescription drugs you are currently taking etc

I know there are 4 places for Sheffield on Octobers course and I can tell you the training flies by, We are already in week 7! The trainers are all great too, I am really enjoying the course.

Anything you need to know ask away, If I can help out I will.

Good luck!

Regards Simon

Absolutely brilliant news and well done.

As mentioned above don't worry about the medical, training has been fantastic and getting closer to the finishing post now.

Two courses in November with 15 on the first course so plenty of places up for grabs.

Good luck with your new career.

Thanks for all the support guys!! I'm up for the battle ah ah ...... better get as much rest as possible by the sounds of it.

Really pleased & it sounds like there are plenty more opportunities for people coming up!!!

Anyone remember the shift pattern? I know it was discussed at interview but I cant remember the details.

Is there anything I can be doing to help myself over the next few weeks?

Cheers....

I do not know of the exact dates, All I do know is that there is a course in October and one in November too.

How many positions in total for Sheffield I do not know but I am sure 4 are starting next month for Sheffield. I also do not know if the candidates have already been selected for the courses from Talent pools etc or if new candidates will be going through the full process.

Best advice is to send an E-mail and ask the question! The 20th is not very far away!

Keep us posted.

Regards Simon

Fingers crossed you get through this time Paul.

No help or tips regarding the Psychometric Assesment, Northern will send you a pack out for you to revise which contains everything you will be tested on.

I went suited and booted mate! Best way IMO.

Test centre I attended was at the Northern Training, South Parade, Leeds about 10 mins walk from Train Station. However I know that some candidates have their test at Doncaster also.

Cheers Simon
