Hail all!
Just a quick poke to inform anyone here who might be interested that I'm currently flogging a ton of assorted computers and other bits 'n' bobs on eBay. Plenty of stuff going there to keep all of the computer enthusiasts and tinkerers amongst us busy for several months (Or for any member of ATOC to upgrade their invaribly ancient network on the cheap! :razz plus a couple of other household items thrown on the side for good measure. 8)

At present, I have my first four lots up (One of these still hasn't worked it's way into the eBay search system at time of posting, but can be found via my About Me page) and although I'm going to be taking it easy whilst I get back into the swing of using eBay, I have quite a number of other items that I'll be putting up for sale as and when I can write descriptions and calculate the P&P fees for them.

Apologies in advance to the forum mods for this advert, but I'm just trying to find potential buyers for stuff that I really need to get shot of and thought - As there's a number of computer enthusiasts about - That this might be a good spot to inform people about it.

I agree, a lot of what I'm selling at the moment is easily classable as pointless tat...But ye'd be surprised what people will buy nowadays. In any case, my listing fees have only amounted to about £2.50, so it's not too big a gamble and it's always worth having a go anyway. If the lot of PCs doesn't find a buyer, I'll probabally put it out for WEEE Collect It.

I have two items on eBay at the moment, both railway items and both the same. I only sell railway stuff on eBay, signs and other hardware items. Sometimes I am lucky to be able to sell it on without having to list it.

Do a search, probably under 'worldwide' for you guys and look for 'Comeng', you'll get 2 desto box things.

Forgot to add, the Weird Al song was like my official song in 2005/2006 when almost everything I owned was bought on eBay!

Christmas 2005 was the most relaxing ever, there were no ques lined up in front of my computer or screaming kids, packed car parks, congested roads either.

Now days I just deal signs, so if there is an Aussie railway sign you want, I'm the man to see. Just one more thing, there is a lot of Aussie signs being sent to the UK that I have noticed, so they can't be too bad.

Would you make more if you sold those PC's individually, or as one lot? Would there be many wanting to buy that many PC's in a single go?

I don't know much about computers, but if you got all the leads, the monitor and other bits and pieces would it work just by plugging them all in, or do they need some work done to them?

Only people who'd really want it would be if they needed spare parts.

I've seen better PCs than even the best one listed be given away for free.

You normally have to pay to get someone to take stuff like that away and dispose of it safely.

Well, it's no choice of mine that the PC-7000 uses 5.25" disks - Those are OEM fitted parts! Bear in mind that the thing was originally released in 1985CE though, and 5.25" 320Kb disks were cutting-edge technology at the time...Most people back then were still using eight-inch 512Kb jobs! hock::razz:

Incidentally, I used to use 5.25" floppies for storing backups of personal and private data simply because - Aside from the long seek and read times (Which would make drive-by data theft impossible) - I was probabally the only person this side of Birmingham who still had a 5.25" drive to hand. However that practice sadly had to end when the heads in the drive decided to wear out with very little prior warning! ad:

To be frank - Given the widely varying nature of the PCs in question (One of 'em is a 386 for goodness sake! ) - Selling them all as a job lot makes a lot more sense than trying to sell them individually. For starters, these systems are all base units alone (No monitors at all, three keyboards, a box of assorted spares, and half a mouse if ye are lucky! :razz and vary widely in condition from nearly new to battered and bruised...Hence why I started it all off for only a fiver as seen.
If I had listed these individually on the other hand and started them all off at a penny each, then aside from chinging myself eighteen seperate auction fees to do it all, I'd probabally only sell the two or three that are the "cream of the crop" - And that's not what I'm aiming for in this case. If ye read the auction page for those PCs, ye'll see the clear condition of sale that the winning bidder must be willing to take all of the PCs, and not just the one or two that they might be interested in.

Although they'd be no good at all to a typical home user, there's a lot going in that auction that would be very handy for system builders and anyone who needs a healthy stash of legacy components. Remember the old 10-BASE-2 co-axial bus networks? Although they were pretty damn slow and experienced more collisions than AXC on a sunny day, they were more durable and longer lasting than todays 10/100/1000-BASE-T/TX/X systems, and - More importantly - Whereas modern Ethernet can only handle cable runs up to 100m between repeaters, 10-BASE-2 can run double the distance for ThinNet, and a whopping 500m for 10-BASE-5 ThickNet!
Apologising for my nostalgic tangent and getting back on point: Amongst that pile 'o' PCs happens to be at least eight network cards with ThinNet connections - Something that ceased to be widely available over ten years ago - And those alone are potentially priceless to anyone who still runs a 10-BASE-2 network for whatever reason!

At time of writing though, three of my four auctions have first finder's bids on them so barring any bid retractions, I've already managed to shift a lot of stuff and take a bigger step towards the goal of de-crapping my home. Some might think that £5.00 for a vanload of PCs is a crazy price to offer them at, but to be honest I'd be happy to let the whole lot go for a quid! hock:8)

Nay, alas...For those particular Better Buy Bonuses, ye'll need to keep a careful eye out for the HyperHacked backdoored ADSL routers that I'll be putting up for auction fairly soon!
