Shaftesbury-Broadbottom

I will be working in Shaftesbury in Dorset for the next month but will have to attend a funeral in Mottram, near Broadbottom station in Manchester on Thu 2nd August at about 1300. I’ll need to travel there and back in a day, and I don’t really fancy driving all that way and back in one day.

The fare from Gillingham seems to be about £130, but I wondered if anybody had any suggestions if I could drive to somewhere and park the car then take a train to make it cheaper?

Starting from Warminster (going via Bristol) might be cheaper and probably quicker.

trainsplit.com can do that for < £80 on a flexible split.

You could consider flying from Southampton. Returns available for £75.

Plus a considerably longer drive to Southampton and the train fare, or a taxi at the MIA end.
Probably quicker though.

Thanks. I looked at the Southampton flights but the times just don't quite work. Warminster sounds a good idea.
