This was meant to be a respectable haul, but the SWML was having a wobbly one that day; a cancellation cost me Shawford and a 10-minute delay cost me my lovely +2 cross-platform at St Denys & all I was left with was the Airport. The train I ended up on didn't even have a respectable connection to Portsmouth and I ended up cutting the corner on my bike.

The Barton branch is a farce. It's a service every 4 hours that's several minutes late & another service every 4 hours that may or may not actually turn up depending on which way the wind's blowing.

I managed to tick off 17 new stations in August

I stayed in Welwyn Garden City but also did Welwyn North, Hatfield and Alexandra Palace on my way into London.

I visited Thanet so ticked off Chestfield & Swalecliffe, Thanet Parkway and Dumpton Park.

On my way back up north to Sowerby Bridge, it was 4 minutes quicker to go via the WCML, so did Warrington Bank Quay and Newton-le-Willows.

And finally had a day out on the North Wales coast, so did Frodsham, Chester, Prestatyn, Rhyl, Abergele & Pensarn, Colwyn Bay, Llandudno and Deganwy (my 500th station!).

Total done: 507

Bad things - 4 cancelled trains resulting in 2.75 hours at Chilworth, a fast car from Crowthorne as well as missing out Betchworth and Dorking West; and then a fatality at Paddington causing chaos at Reading which meant a PSUL move didn’t happen


Good things - great pub lunch in Chilworth ,lots of sunshine, just a handful of lines to red pen now in England, £13.90 is a bargain for the North Downs Day Ranger (when you can find someone to sell it)
