You're seriously deciding who's the better singer on the basis that one did some adverts, and one didn't?! Personally, I would compare their musical talent, how well they could sing when deciding who the better one was.

As someone from the outside (The Seekers and Steeleye Span are more my taste) Rotten seems to come up with the better singles. I'm only aware of Vicious doing "My Way" and "God Save The Queen" is better (if a little unpatriotic lol!)

My Way - hardly his finest moment although there is some good stuff on 'Sid Sings' Sid was indeed the bassist; did he ever do lead vocals with the sex pistols?

John Lydon has had the musical talent of a hundred Sids (although to be honest, Lydon talked about having wanted to play in "the band of Johns" with Sid and Wobble) and has influenced dance-orientated rock/pop music since the late-1970s. And PiL wiped floor with Pist0ls anyway, as much as I like the latter too. But I abstain from voting...

Johnny Rotten was the better singer. He was actually a pretty good singer, particularly for punk. Sid Vicious was a terrible singer, a terrible bass player and a terrible human being. Nobody mourns his passing.

I went to a New Model Army gig in Leeds a couple of years ago and it was indeed full of fat middle aged goth blokes, all moshing with their tops off. The mosh pit was like a writhing mass of oiled-up beached whales.

And don't get me started on the trend of exhuming happily long-dead 1980s groups for a bit of new-generation moneygrabbing... :roll: Apparent at least in the present metal scene.

Presumably a lot are looking at Iron Maiden, who have done extremely well in the last 10 years (far better then in the 80s), though Maiden didn't stop, just had relative obscurity for a while and just kept working at it and evolving new material.

The ones that just recycle the back catalogue are often cringe-worthy.

actually I've seen two 80s bands this year who've reformed, OMD & Heaven 17 and they were both brilliant
