Severe thunderstorms to affect some services 12/06/2023

Last night was horrible with almost constant thunder and lighting for about 2 hours.

Done safely, the thrill of the chase would be mega. Not for me though, I prefer to watch from the safety of the indoors!

The recent storms don't seem to have negatively impacted trains in my part of the world, so that's good news

Got away lightly in Ilford, east London on Monday. Around lunchtime, we were hit by a storm but it lasted all of 15 minutes. Looks like West London was hit twice by torrential rain on Sunday and Monday.

That's generally associated with the passing of a cold / occluded front, I think. If it's just thunderstorms breaking out because of the heat & humidity, that alone doesn't shift the airmass they emerged in.

but rainfall does wash dust out of the air, whether there is much wind or not.
It was noticeable how bright the views were after our torrential rain on Monday as we hadn't had any rain for 10 days or more before that.
