Good day,

I received an out of court settlement offer letter today from Southeastern following a notification of fare evasion.

The letter states the amount of £173.30 to be paid (the sum of £23.30 for fare avoided and contribution of £150.00 for costs to date).

However, when I go to the online site to make the payment, the website tells me the fee to be paid is £288.30, which is £115.00 higher than the letter states.

What do you advise I do here? Thank you for your help

Is there an option to choose the amount to pay on the website or is it all or nothing?

If there is a phone number then I would call them on Monday. If not, second best is email, and if that isn’t possible then a letter sent “signed for” first class to the address on your letter, ensuring you keep a copy.

If there's not a phone number for the prosecutions department then I would reply to the sender's address on the letter (or see if there's an address on the payment website), attaching a crossed postal order made out to Govia Thameslink Railway for the amount requested in the letter. If they have an email address, also send them an email message to inform that payment is in the mail.

Small point but initial post says Southeastern not Govia Thameslink.

My mistake, I misread it as Southern!

To the OP, the postal order/banker's draft should be made out to SE Trains Ltd which is the business that runs Southeastern.

If you don’t mind me asking, how did you get caught for fare evasion? Someone I know is in a similar position to you!
