Oxenholme is technically a Hamlet as it does'nt have its own church. Another example of a Hamlet is Spital-in-the-Street

MARSH seems such a very simple place to find, but the one that I found was a very minor hamlet near to Ottery St Mary, in East Devon, which was entered in the Domesday Book as OTREI, so all I can say is.....

Ashton-upon-Mersey, in the Sale area, shares a very unusual linguistic trait with Stourport-on-Severn. Both have a name that designates them as being on a major river, but also have a different river's name at the start of the main part of their name:
