Another area whose first syllable is "Strath" is the former area of Strathclyde, which is of course under the jurisdiction of Strathclyde police, based in Glasgow.

Just to clarify, you do realise that your Hythe is not the same as mine?

Apologies..the Cinque Ports one was at the front of my mind. In relation to your quote above, I will reply by saying:-

Southport and Hythe (Hampshire) have pier railways.

Tamworth is also on the A51.

In the Saxon kingdom of Mercia, Lichfield was the religious centre and Tamworth was the administrative centre.

Droitwich Spa is also by-passed by the A38.

Where?

The location of my local station at home, Thorpe Bay, is also formed of two words. And before Paul asks, I do intend to visit The Broadway while I'm at home! The bakery there is among the best I've ever been to :p

Herne Bay also has 'bay' in its name.

Whitstable sits besides Herne Bay on the north Kentish coast, and between they form supposedly the county's nicest resort area. (I've never been though.)

Personal one now:

Blackpool is also somewhere I went on a day trip where I received some very unwelcome news relating to my father's work <(

I've visited both once only, and both have been affected! <(

--------------------

If anyone is wondering, in Blackpool he informed me that our holiday would be cut short and I was left with a daunting £20 availability to get me all the way from Southport to Bath, while in St Ives, well... this (for which he was praised by the emergency services) saw him sacked, due to his company's total ineptitude. It was only brief, probably due to the likely pressure from the emergency services, but Heaven only knows why he didn't just quit there and then...
