Durnford School was an English preparatory school which occupied Durnford House, in Langton Maltravers High Street. A notable pupil (from 1914) was
Ian Lancaster Fleming, the author of the James Bond novels, who attended Durnford before Eton together with his brother Peter. The school was next to the estate of the Bond family. He was born on 28th May 1908 at 27 Green Street in the London district of Mayfair.

Shepherd Market has been called the "village centre" of Mayfair. The current buildings date from around 1860, and house food and antique shops, pubs and restaurants. The market had a reputation for high-class prostitution. In the 1980s, Jeffrey Archer was alleged to frequent the area and was accused of visiting Monica Coghlan, a call girl in Shepherd Market, which eventually led to a libel trial, and later to Archer's imprisonment.

Archer was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Louth (Lincolnshire) from 1969 to 1974, but did not seek re-election after almost going bankrupt.

In the late 19th Century the sweet pea, native to Italy, was developed and the range of colours expanded at a nursery in Wem by Henry Eckford. However the national collection of sweet pea varieties is now under the stewardship of English Sweet Peas Ltd of Maldon, Essex.

Buckie Thistle FC are based at Victoria Park, Buckie and currently play in the Scottish Highland Football League (SHFL, commonly known as the Highland League). Another team in the same league are the splendidly named Inverurie Loco Works FC, who play at Harlaw Park, Inverurie.

Granite for the Holborn Viaduct in London came from the Paradise Quarry in Kemnay. Granite for the New London Bridge (now replaced by an even newer one) came from the Haytor Quarry near Haytor Vale in Devon.

Crostwight in Norfolk was also once under the jurisdiction of the Smallburgh Poor Law Union.

Crostwight church retains a damaged set of mediaeval Passion Cycle wall paintings, reputedly the only church in Norfolk to do so. All the remaining such wall paintings are on churches south of the Humber, with the single exception of a set in the Church of St Peter & St Paul, Pickering, North Yorkshire.

Hutton Buscel in North Yorkshire was also once administered by the Pickering Lythe Wapentake.

St Matthew's Church, Hutton Buscel is a Grade I listed building. It was built in the 12th century with additions in the 13th and 15th centuries and it underwent restoration by the British Gothic Revival architect William Butterfield (1814 – 1900) in 1855. Another example of his work is the restoration at St Nicholas' Church, Thanington Without (or Thanington), Kent in 1846.

Hackington in Kent was also once administered by the Hundred of Westgate.

Hackington parish includes part of the University of Kent, one of whose buildings subsided in 1974 and had to be demolished through a collapse in the closed Tyler Hill Tunnel below it. Much more serious was the collapse of the Swinton Hall Tunnel (aka Black Harry Tunnel), Swinton, Manchester in 1953 which destroyed three houses and led to the deaths of five people.

From Cowpe you can walk or ride along the Cotton Famine Road, the construction of which was funded by government in the 1860s to give relief to cotton workers refusing to process raw cotton produced by slave labour in the Confederate States of America. It leads over Rooley Moor to Catley Lane Head, Lancashire.

The only place I can find with this name is Hen Heads Farm, which is just off the track called Kings Highway. This leads in a southerly direction from just off the A56 and ends just outside Haslingden.

Bicester in Oxfordshire also has a church named The Immaculate Conception.

Bicester RUFC play in the Counties 1 Southern North League at Oxford Road, Bicester. In the same League are Gosford All Blacks RFC, who play at Stratfield Brake, Freize Way, Kidlington, Oxfordshire.

Jaguar Racing, based in Kidlington, is the current Formula E Manufacturers' Champion. The other British team which competed in Formula E is McLaren, based in Woking, Surrey, but they have just withdrawn from the sport.

Ockham Common, to the north-east of the village, is the site of the disused Wisley Airfield. As late as 1972, this airfield was in service as a satellite fit-out and flight test centre for Vickers and latterly the British Aircraft Corporation, linked to their main factory and airfield at nearby Brooklands, Weybridge.

Another airfield on a common, now disused but during the 1980s the site of continuous protests against the presence of US nuclear armed missiles, was built in 1941/2 at Greenham, Berkshire.
