The village was for many years the residence of the English composer, music critic, pianist and writer Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji. He was born as Leon Dudley Sorabji in Chingford, Essex, on 14th August 1892 and died, aged 96, on 15th October 1988 at Winfrith Newburgh, Dorset.

Shrigley Hall is a former county house (now a hotel and country club) standing to the northwest of the village of Pott Shrigley. It was used as a school during the 20th Century, when a chapel designed by the English architect Philip Tilden (1887 – 1956) and built between 1936 and 1938 was added. Another example of his work can be seen at Cherkley Court, Leatherhead, where alterations were made for the owner, Lord Beaverbrook.
