Saint Faith's parish Church in Dorstone was reputedly built by Richard de Brito, one of the knights who murdered Thomas Beckett as penance for the murder. The life and martyrdom of Saint Faith (also known as Saint Faith of Conques or Saint Faith of Agen) has been recounted in several verse narratives and martyrologies. A French verse narrative, based on Latin sources, La Vie de Sainte Foy, was written by Simon of Walsingham, a monk at the Abbey of Bury St Edmunds.

"Jack of Newbury" or John Winchcombe, also known as John Smallwood (c. 1489 −1557) was a leading English clothier from Newbury. The Wessex Ridgeway long distance footpath passes along the northern edge of Stoke Abbott parish, following the line of an ancient trackway also thought to have been used as a Roman road in the early stages of the occupation of Britain. The Catholic Church of St Oswald and St Edmund Arrowsmith is located on Liverpool Road in Ashton-in-Makerfield. It was constructed in the Romanesque style and completed in 1930. The architect was John Sydney Brocklesby (1879-1955), who was also responsible for the design of the Sacred Heart Church, a Catholic church in Queen's Avenue, Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent.
