The Williamite War in Ireland took place from March 1689 to October 1691. Fought between Jacobite supporters of James II and those of his successor, William III. The war ended with the Treaty of Limerick in October 1691.

Swinford was created as a planned town by the Anglo-Irish Brabazon family in the late 1700s. The Brabazons had originally resided in County Galway, but lost their estates there after fighting on the losing side in the Williamite War in Ireland.

Athlone sometimes claims to be the centre of the Island of Ireland and as such was suggested in the 1970s as the prospective capital for a United Ireland. In fact the geographical centre is some distance away. An equivalent claim is made by Haltwhistle in Northumberland which is similarly not actually the centre of the Island of Britain. However as far as I know, Haltwhistle has no similar pretensions to be a capital.

Colonel Charles John Coventry CB (26 February 1867 – 2 June 1929) was a British Army officer and an amateur cricketer who played in two retrospectively-recognised Test matches for England in 1889.

He was educated at Eton College (Berkshire). Coventry died at his home in Earl's Croome, Worcestershire on 2 June 1929.

Eton mess is a traditional English dessert consisting of a mixture of strawberries or other berries, meringue, and whipped cream. First mentioned in print in 1893, it is commonly believed to originate from Eton College and is served at the annual cricket match against the pupils of Harrow School. Eton mess is occasionally served at Harrow School, where it is called Harrow mess.
