Aberfeldy is the location of Wade's Bridge across the River Tay. The name refers to General George Wade, Commander in Chief of the army in Northern Britain from 1725 to 1737 and during the first part of the 1745 Jacobite Rising, being replaced by Prince William after he failed to prevent the rebel forces from entering England and allowed them to penetrate as far south as Derby. He was born in Killavally, County Westmeath.
