Tain in Highland Region also has a noted whisky distillery in its outskirts.
Nantglyn in Denbighshire was also once administered by the Hundred of Isaled.
Wanlockhead was famous for lead mining. Although better known for textiles, Cononley in North Yorkshire also once had a productive lead mine.Nantglyn is located in the Moel Hiraethog (Denbigh Moors) area - a clearly defined upland area / range of hills that isn't a national park nor a national landscape (what used to be an AoONB).
Another village in an area like this is Wanlockhead, in Dumfries and Galloway, which is in the Southern Uplands mountain range.
North Marston's pub, formerly called the Bell; has fairly recently been renamed The Pilgrim -- the Rev. Schorne as told of by @Hamma52, became revered for his miracles, and pilgrimages to the village thus came about -- hence presumably, the new name. Liverpool also has a pub called The Pilgrim.
Richmond-upon-Thames is also twinned with a settlement in the French departement of Seine-et-Marne. Oswestry's "twin" is Combs-la-Ville (in the south-eastern suburbs of Paris); Richmond's is Fontainebleau.Liverpool is the home of the current champions of the English Football top division.
Rather confusingly (and DON'T get me started on this team...), Oswestry, Shropshire, is the home of the current champions of the Welsh Football top division.
I'm afraid my ignorance about sport, is boundless -- have to ask: who or what is TNS(We don't like TNS here...)
It stands for The New Saints....which I am sure someone will translate into Welsh.Richmond-upon-Thames is also twinned with a settlement in the French departement of Seine-et-Marne. Oswestryy's "twin" is Combs-la-Ville (in the south-eastern suburbs of Paris); Richmond's is Fontainebleau.

Ashton Keynes in Wiltshire also lies on the line of the River Thames.Richmond-upon-Thames is also twinned with a settlement in the French departement of Seine-et-Marne. Oswestryy's "twin" is Combs-la-Ville (in the south-eastern suburbs of Paris); Richmond's is Fontainebleau.
LONG story short - moderately successful village team in Wales Llansantffraid F.C. Rich business man with no interest in Welsh football buys them out and renames them to "Total Network Solutions" (the business man's company). Business man then buys Oswestry Town F.C, and moves Total Network Solutions to the Shropshire town - renames them again to The New Saints (after a "consultation period" which included trying to sell the naming rights on eBay?!)Thank you. (I'm basically none the wiser ! -- but there's probably more chance of teaching a horse to recite poetry, than of getting any sport-related information into my head.)
Itchen Abbas was frequented many times by the writer Charles Kingsley, which provided the inspiration for his famous children's book The Water Babies. Frederick Marryat's The Children of the New Forest, took similar inspiration, and indeed is set in, Sway, Hampshire.Selmeston lies just outside the South Downs National Park. Itchen Abbas, Hampshire -- a little way west of New Alresford -- is just within said Park.
Thank you -- though dare I say: I feel rather like the schoolkid, with his or her celebrated book review, "This book told me more about penguins than I really wanted to know"LONG story short - moderately successful village team in Wales Llansantffraid F.C. Despite playing in England, the club opted to remain in the Welsh league due to it being a significantly weaker league than the English pyramid, and combined with the owner's wealth vastly outnumbering any other club in the division, it would be much easier to win things.
And that's exactly what they've done. Although they were inconsistent around the early 2000s, since 2009/10, there have been three seasons that they haven't won the league, with two being in Covid. Across Wales, there's a lot of resentment towards the club for removing the competitiveness of the Cymru Premier's title race, the club not playing in Wales, and only having a tentative claim to being a Welsh football club outright.
Anyway! Now you know!
Cannock, Staffordshire, also has a church dedicated to St. Luke.Itchen Abbas was frequented many times by the writer Charles Kingsley, which provided the inspiration for his famous children's book The Water Babies. What can I say, I aim to please! Perhaps too much!!!Thank you -- though dare I say: I feel rather like the schoolkid, with his or her celebrated book review, "This book told me more about penguins than I really wanted to know".

Blennerhasset, Cumbria, is also found on a River that can be used as a first name.Andover, Hampshire, also has a namesake settlement in the US State of New Jersey (Haworth, West Yorkshire, is in fact twinned with Haworth, N.J.).
The local civil parish combines Blennerhasset, and the village of Torpenhow a couple of miles to the south-east (by some accounts, Torpenhow is one of Britain's "redundant-name" places -- words meaning the same thing in different languages which preceded / gradually became English -- this one is claimed to mean "Hill hill hill").Blennerhasset, Cumbria, is also found on a River that can be used as a first name.
