Very broadly "sci-fi / space-fiction / fantasy" department, and bringing of British settlement names into same -- we learn that in Jack Vance's Demon Princes novel cycle: the capital of Aloysius, the main planet in the Vega system, is called Pontefract. At one point in Douglas Adams's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy saga, there are weird goings-on at Lord's cricket ground, St. John's Wood, London Borough of Camden / City of Westminster.

Nearby Rostherne Mere was probably formed by a combination of retreating glaciers creating a kettle hole.

A kettle (also known as a kettle hole, kettlehole, or pothole) is a depression or hole in an outwash plain formed by retreating glaciers or draining floodwaters.

Another similar lake, in a kettle hole, formed 10,000 years ago by mass glacial action is Talkin Tarn near Brampton, Cumbria.

Darley Dale in Derbyshire is also a two word long town, where both words in the town's name and the county the town is in start with the same letter.

Bridgnorth, Shropshire, also has a twin settlement in the French departement of Puy-de-Dome. St. Davids's "twin" is Orleat; Bridgnorth's is Thiers.
