Cosgrove lies on the River Tove (wonder how slithy that river may be ?), shortly before its confluence with the Great Ouse. Further upstream on the R. Tove, lies Towcester, Northamptonshire (its name meaning "camp on the Tove").

Abthorpe in Northamptonshire was also once under the jurisdiction of the Towcester Poor Law Union.

Abthorpe had a deer park, established in medieval times: said facility more or less ceased to be, as a result of a large-scale poaching operation in 1537; which caused much activity in high places, re attempts to bring the perpetrators to justice. Another episode at a not hugely later date, concerning people hunting deer which were not theirs to hunt: reputedly occurred not an immense distance away, at Charlecote, Warwickshire (a few miles east of Stratford-upon-Avon) -- deer-poaching in Charlecote Park having been carried out per some accounts, by a young chap called William Shakespeare. There was a degree of hostility between Shakespeare's family; and that of the local magnate Sir Thomas Lucy, owner of the park.

Brechin's city status, based on its having a cathedral, seems to have been forgotten about post-Reformation (except by it's football team). When Rochester became part of Medway Unitary Authority in the 90s the relevant people forgot to apply for it's city status to be continued within the new UA.

Boars Hill has a couple of glancing mentions -- to do with characters' time at Oxford University -- in Evelyn Waugh's novel Brideshead Revisited (which I haven't read -- Mr. Waugh not my cup of tea). The novel's "Brideshead", is the fictional stately home of Brideshead Castle: which "noble pile" has been represented in film and television versions of the book, by the opulent house Castle Howard in North Yorkshire, some five miles south-west of Malton; nearest settlement probably the village of Kirkham, North Yorkshire.
